LAWTELL THE ART CAT - Tridacna painting

Tridacna
24″x20″oil on canvas by Dona Simons

Roll over, or touch (if on your phone), the image

Root-a-toot-toot. This giant clam looks to me like it has a horn. Do you see it in the center of the painting? Giant clams come in fabulous colors. The dots on this one make me think of a wild group of musical notes bebopping all over the place: a delirious composition of swoops and swerves, twists and turns, spots and dots, ruffles and flourishes. When you look closer, you see the color story:  each dot a bull’s eye of color upon candy color. And the “empty” places between the rows of dots? They are likewise layered, a triumph of pattern and texture. Just like jazz!

Roll over the painting image to see me at my Dizzy Gillespiest. I have my trumpet ready to play “ A Night in Tuna-isia.” Trouble is, I have difficulty pushing down the keys with my longhaired paws. So, I just have to settle for Jazz vocals. Here’s an audio file of my s-cat singing. Isn’t it melodic? I sing my creative expression of desire for baked chicken.
